Window Replacement Across Baytown

Close to half of Baytown’s homes were built before 1980, according to the Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 estimates, and a house that age may well still have the aluminum windows it was built with. The Window Source of Houston does window replacement across Baytown from our shop in Tomball, about forty-six miles to the northwest.

Old aluminum frames pass summer heat into the room, sweat on cool mornings and wear in their tracks until a slider has to be forced open. Each of those gets better with a new frame and new glass.

What changes when the old aluminum comes out

Aluminum carries heat many times faster than vinyl, and frames from the 1970s and earlier often have nothing inside them to slow it down. On an August afternoon the frame warms up and heats the air next to it. On a cool morning it runs cold, and moisture from the room condenses on the metal and collects on the sill.

The new frame can be vinyl, or aluminum with a thermal break, which is an insulating strip between the inside and outside halves of the frame. The glass is double-pane with a low-E coating that turns back a good share of the sun’s heat before it reaches the room.

Old sliders ride on rollers that flatten and tracks that pit and fill with grit, which is why they end up having to be lifted to move. The pile weatherstripping along the sash wears down too, until you can feel a draft with the window locked. A new sash slides easily and seals against the frame when it’s latched.

Baytown window replacement in older and newer homes

By the same Census estimates, nearly a quarter of Baytown’s homes date from the 1950s and 1960s. More than a quarter went up in 2000 or later, and those houses run on their own clock, because the seal on builder-grade double-pane glass wears out too.

On an older aluminum window, look for a white, chalky film or pitting on the frame, a slider you have to lift or force, and water on the sill after a cool night. On a newer window, the thing to watch for is a haze between the panes that won’t wipe off, which means the seal has failed. We’ll tell you at the estimate which windows need replacing now and which can wait.

Installing new windows in Baytown

Each old unit comes out completely, frame included, and the new window is custom built to the measurements of your opening. Before it goes in, the opening gets our Leak Shield flashing system at no extra cost, and The Window Source of Houston guarantees the installation for life.

Most of Baytown sits in Harris County, and none of that side falls inside the Texas Department of Insurance’s windstorm catastrophe area, which in Harris County covers five cities east of State Highway 146. The roughly 1,800 homes on the Chambers County side, by the 2020 Census count, are a different case, because all of Chambers County is in the program. If yours is one of them and you carry wind coverage through TWIA, new windows and entry doors need a windstorm certificate of compliance, so bring it up at the estimate.

Along with windows, we install entry and patio doors, Hardie siding and gutters. Window repair, glass cutting and storefront work aren’t jobs we take. We also replace windows in Humble and Atascocita to the northwest, Pearland to the southwest and League City to the south.
