“My husband and I are obsessed with our new windows from The Window Source!! They were delivered in a very short time frame and only took a day to install. Great install crew, very clean, efficient, and paid attention to detail when sealing everything off.”
Energy Tax Credit for Windows and Doors
As of September 2026, the federal tax credit for energy-efficient windows and doors has ended. The IRS doesn’t allow it for anything installed after December 31, 2025, and Texas has no state credit to take its place.
If your new windows or doors went in during 2025, you can still claim the credit for that year. Your tax preparer can tell you whether the products you bought qualified.

What the credit was and why it ended
Starting in 2023, the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit let homeowners take 30% of the product cost of qualifying windows and exterior doors off their federal taxes, up to $600 a year for windows and $500 for doors. It was set to run through 2032.
A federal law signed on July 4, 2025 moved the end date up to December 31, 2025. Windows and doors installed after that date don’t qualify, however efficient they are.
State and utility programs
Texas has no personal income tax, so there’s no state credit to claim. The state’s ENERGY STAR sales tax holiday covers appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators and water heaters, and windows and doors aren’t on the list.
Utility rebates don’t cover replacement windows either. CenterPoint, Entergy Texas and TNMP put their programs toward attic insulation, A/C tune-ups, air sealing and similar work. The federally funded Texas Home Energy Rebates haven’t launched yet, and the State Energy Conservation Office says they’re still being planned.
What still lowers the cost
- Energy-efficient glass that cuts your cooling bills
- Insurance discounts on impact windows, with some carriers
- Monthly payment plans, including 0% interest options

Lower cooling bills
Energy-efficient windows still cut what you spend on cooling. Low-E coatings and insulated glass keep much of the sun’s heat outside, so your air conditioner doesn’t work as hard through a Houston summer.
When you compare windows, look for the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) on the label. It measures how much of the sun’s heat comes through the window, and a lower number keeps the house cooler. Our energy-efficient windows page covers the options we install.

Insurance discounts for impact windows
If you’re putting in impact windows, call your insurance agent before you buy and ask about a discount. The Texas Department of Insurance says discounts and credits for storm protection may be available, but they vary from one company to another.
Ask your carrier what paperwork it needs after the installation so you can send it in as soon as the job is done.

What Houston homeowners say
“I got several quotes, and Jairo was the only one who brought samples and took the time to give us a demonstration. The office stayed in communication with me every step of the way… Edwin’s installation team worked quickly and professionally.”
“Replacing my parents’ original builder-grade windows in their 25+ year old home was one of the best investments they’ve made… They’ve already noticed lower electric bills, less outside noise, and a cooler, more comfortable home that’s much easier to keep at a consistent temperature.”
