Window Replacement for Spring, TX Homes

If one room in your Spring house stays warm long after the rest has cooled off, check which way its windows face. Our office is in Tomball, about eleven miles west, and The Window Source of Houston does window replacement throughout Spring.

Glass on the west and south sides of a house takes the afternoon sun all summer. Windows without a Low-E coating let much of that heat through, so the air conditioner is still working on that room after dark.

Afternoon sun on Spring’s west-facing windows

Late on a summer day the sun sits low in the western sky and shines almost straight into west-facing glass. South-facing windows take sun through the middle of the day as well. A bedroom or game room with a lot of glass on either wall can stay warm into the evening, and turning the thermostat down cools the rest of the house before it makes a dent in that room.

Blinds and curtains help some, but the heat they catch has already passed through the glass. Keeping it outside takes glass built to turn more of the sun’s heat away. Fog between the panes on those same windows means the seal has failed as well, and the glass has lost much of its insulating value.

Spring isn’t incorporated, so there’s no city limit to go by. Across the 77373, 77379, 77386, 77388 and 77389 ZIP codes, the Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 estimates put about seven in ten homes and apartments in buildings finished before 2010, so a lot of the original windows around Spring are more than fifteen years old.

Low-E glass for west and south walls

A Low-E coating is a thin, clear layer on the glass that reflects much of the sun’s heat and still lets daylight in. Rated windows carry a label from the National Fenestration Rating Council, and two numbers on it tell you how a window will handle a hot wall. The solar heat gain coefficient runs from 0 to 1, and a lower number lets in less of the sun’s heat. Visible transmittance runs on the same scale, and a higher number means more daylight, so you can see whether a glass keeps heat out without darkening the room.

At the free consultation we walk you through the glass options on our energy-efficient windows. Our price ranges are per window, installed, so if the west and south walls are where the trouble is, the job can start there.

What installation day looks like

On installation day the old windows come out completely, frames included. Before each new one goes in, the opening is wrapped with our Leak Shield flashing system, which layers a flashing membrane, butyl tape and low-expansion foam and finishes with an exterior seal. The new windows are custom built to your measurements, and the crew protects your floors and furniture and cleans up before leaving.

The Window Source of Houston backs every installation with a lifetime Leak Shield Guarantee, and we replace sliding patio doors as well, since a west-facing one takes the same afternoon heat. Beyond Spring, we work in The Woodlands to the north, Cypress to the west and Humble to the southeast, all from our home base in Tomball.
