Window Replacement Across The Woodlands
Window replacement in The Woodlands comes with one extra step, because the Township’s residential standards cover new windows and call for approval before the work starts. The Window Source of Houston works throughout The Woodlands, and our office in Tomball is about ten miles southwest.
Once you know what the Township looks for, you can settle on a style, frame color and glass that fit. Then you apply, and the installation date goes on the calendar once approval comes through.
Replacement windows under The Woodlands Township’s standards
The Woodlands Residential Development Standards, in their 2024 edition, have a section on windows. When windows are replaced, the Standards ask for a type and style compatible with the design of the home. Tinted glass is allowed, mirrored or other reflective glass isn’t, and security bars aren’t permitted.
The Standards pre-approve storm windows, storm doors and screens that are compatible with the windows and doors already on the house. Replacement windows aren’t on that list, so they need written approval from the Township’s Residential Design Review Committee or its staff before any work begins. Neighborhood criteria, which vary from one part of The Woodlands to another, can add requirements on top of the Standards.
Choosing a style and color that suits the house
Because the Standards look at how new windows suit the house, decide early if you want to keep the current look or change it. A change, such as white frames to black or sliders to casements, gets weighed against the design of the home and the neighborhood around it.
Screens have a rule of their own, and the Standards allow them only in brown, black, bronze or charcoal gray. If you want a light frame color, plan on screens in one of those darker shades. Applying to the Township and scheduling the work
Applications go through the Township’s online Civic Access portal. If a contractor applies on your behalf, the Township asks that you register your own account there first.
